So it's been a little while since we've written. Just to catch everyone up, we have survived numerous Elgin trips, a great trip to St. Louis and Chicago to see family, Izzy's first day of school, and the birth of our third child Koen Daniel Ingwersen. So as you can see with this much going on we're lucky to have time to sleep let alone update the blog.
Despite a rough couple of days in the beginning Izzy has decided that she loves preschool, particularly breakfast and lunch. She also loves to help mom and dad take care of her baby brother Koen. Both her and Jens have enjoyed helping daddy figure out his new Harley. Jens is begining to get acustomed to his new role of big brother. Koen is both a breath of fresh air for our family, and a pleasent challenge for mom and dad. (We're still trying to figure out how nana and papa maintained their sanity with three kids)

Lesson Learned

While going through our junk drawer, I found out we need to devolp film. I then realized we needed to develop a lot of film, 19 rolls to be exact. Since we got our tax return back, I thought it would be fun to do them all at once, haha so now I get to split them up into scrapbook, izzy's and jen's photo album. I will not wait to ever do that again, lesson learned.
We thought we would plan a vacation, we were shooting for April, then may, now June. Josh found out he is going to PLDC, which is a school for his promotion to sgt. Which is a month long. We are hoping to keep our vacation plans, but I think we are stuck here forever. I am sorry you all have to keep coming down here, someday we will get stationed someplace cool, hopefully. Army life never plan anything, lesson learned.
It seems we never stop learning,and that old saying you learn something new every day, I didn't realize it would be for the rest of our lives.

chuckie cheese

What a great time, we took the kids to Chuckie Cheese. They were so cute, jens found a bulldozer ride and rode it for about an hour, he took a break to eat pizza. Isabelle discovered whack-A-Mole, and how to get aggression out of her system. I think we took them so Josh could play ski ball and I could eat the pizza. It is great having kids because it would just be weird if we went by ourselves. I forgot how good this pizza is, and I finally out ate Josh. After this adventure to mouse land, we went to the mall. Since it is about an hour drive we don't go that much. I wanted cookies and needed some maternity clothes, so we went. It was a successful shopping experience. I am glad the kids were tired, we actually enjoyed walking around the mall, for a change.
we are doing good otherwise, and looking forward to a vacation.

Number 3! what a chirstmas!

What a christmas. We had a great holiday, we had a visit from nana and papa and uncle micah. it was a visit we needed, it is hard for us to get out to visit and we are missing everyone. Nana and papa got a workout, and the kids were not about to let them sleep. Of course the kids got showered with gifts, Thank you everybody. We also got a chirstmas gift that will last forever, finally a gift that will never go out of style. We found out our 3rd child is on their way. We are very excited, and feel very blessed. My pregnancy as of now in Jan. has been one of all day morning sickness and extreme fatigue. This is leading to bielve it is a girl since Izzy kicked my butt the first 3 months and Jens I had nothing like this, girls are mean even before they are born.

This leads to my comical 3 year old, the kids were taking bath's the other night, when Izzy says "Mommy, I peed in the bath tub' I said" Oh no, well I guess bath time is over, what happened honey?" Izzy replied " well honey, it is all wet in here so i must have peed" I almost fell in the tub laughing.

I am miss my sanity, but I guess i can't miss something i never had!

Thanksgiving

Well, we had another good thanksgiving dinner. The only bad thing was how quiet it was, we miss the crazy family holidays. we are doing good the distance is starting wear on us, and we are trying to find military post closer to our family we will see how that works. Josh is going before a promotion board, which is a very large position he is going for. He has been studying hard and working even harder, please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. The kids are doing great, and we love just setting back and watch them play tougher, they play so good (most of the time), Izzy likes to send Jens to time out a little too much though. We are ready for Christmas, and Josh thinks our house looks like a landing zone and is scared a plane may try to land here. I don't think it that bad, it is FUN. This is my favorite holiday, and I like to go overboard. I love the bell ringers, the songs and party's. We are fortunate enough to get Josh's parents this year and we are overcome with joy.

Help,the kids are driving me crazy!! Josh is in Florida for another week. Yes once again Josh is saving the world and I'm here with thing 1 and thing 2. I never thought raising kids would be the hardest job I would ever have. I know very cleshe, but true. Event's they drive me nuts it's a good kind of nuts. Isabelle has my personality, god help us all. She knows what she wants and she wants it now, she also likes to make people laugh and comfort them which is good, I was in the middle of a breakdown the other day and she said "don't cry honey, I love you with all my heart." and she rubbed my back, this made feel like the craziness was worth it and maybe I can raise a good human being. I think as a parent I see the world differently then before they came. I see the good more in people and I wonder no matter what kind of bad they may have done, they could be rubbing someone's back and telling them not to cry. It's funny a 3 yr.old can make you think deeper. Jens is doing good, getten' tall and he can run. I have never seen a kid run like him. He is sweet to when he isn't hittn' us and torturing his sister. He like to snuggle and look at books. We as a family are all doing well.

I understand that most people don't usually put tragic stories in a blog however, after recent events I feel compelled to share the events surrounding my last visit to New Orleans. I've visited New Orleans three times prior to leaving to be part of the rescue and resupply effort following hurricane Katrina. The first time in 1992 during the LYF youth gathering. I remember very well walking the streets of the French Quarter, gathering in the Super Dome for chapel services, and pounding nails into a house being built for Habitat For Humanity in the convention center. During my second visit I was on a cross-country training flight (Army Aviation term for flying a relatively long distance to go to a restaurant and eat expensive food for the low price that the FBO charges us after filling our Huey with over 100 gallons of jet fuel). We flew to the helipad at the Super Dome to practice helipad landings, and visited a heliport that catered to off-shore oil rigs. The third visit was two weeks prior to the hurricane. We were on a hospital transfer and after dropping off our patient, we landed at the Super Dome for fuel. After refueling we caught a cab to get something to eat. Upon returning to our aircraft we got a ride from a cabbie who told us that he was in the process of buying the cab company from his former employer.
This last visit was much different from the last three. Before leaving we were told that the damage in New Orleans was easily ten times worse than what we had seen on T.V. How true that statement was. T.V. couldnt prepare us for the smell of sewage, various chemicals in the water, and death. It also couldnt prepare us for the frustration of people just not wanting to be evacuated. It was sad to see these people walking though water that would surely cause disease, and death. My crews first evacuation mission was for two elderly couples living in a duplex we hovered over the building lightly resting one skid of our helicopter on the roof of the building then carefully loaded them on to the Huey. The next day we hoisted an elderly man from his home on the eastern side of the city. Later that day we came across a whole neighborhood of people who insisted (even after explaining the possible health hazards) that they did not want to be evacuated they did however, want to be resupplied with food and water. After returning with their resupply we found a family of four from that neighborhood that had a change of heart and decided to be evacuated. While flying from their neighborhood over downtown and to the evac. point at the airport, you could see in their eyes that they didn't realize just how bad off the whole city really was. We flew over one of the levee breaks and were amazed at how the water just pushed neighborhoods of houses out of its way. We also saw a train that was ripped off its tracks and pushed aside as if a tornado had come through the area. In a roughly 48 hour period we had flown over 20 hours, performed evacuation, MEDEVAC, re-supply missions and even took people to get prescriptions refilled at one of the few hospitals that was still somewhat operating.
There were some uplifting and even humorous things that happened. For example when landing at the airport to drop off our patients or passengers at the triage center they were loaded on to baggage carts, which reminded me of a part of the movie Airplane! where exactly the same thing happened. Another thing was the Air Forces re-supply point at Zephyr field ( a baseball stadium about five miles west of the Super Dome). Any time we landed for fuel or food and water, they ran up to the Huey with cold water, and took an average of fifteen minutes to refuel and re-supply us. It was great to see such highly motivated people push as hard as they could to see to it that we could spend as much time in the air as possible. When we returned to the airfield we were operating out of in Hammond LA, there was a restaurant owner and a banker that got together and without being asked, made us dinner every night. The first night was lasagna and the second was steaks. The food was the quality that you would expect from a 4 star restaurant. Every night before leaving they thanked us for helping in New Orleans, It was nice to hear that we were making a difference in someone's life.
